Our Youth Garden partners provide a fertile foundation for Roots youth to grow. We extend the experience by providing participants with unique opportunities to gain courage, confidence and life-enhancing capabilities.

Appetite for Change
Appetite For Change helps North Minneapolis youth build health, wealth and social change through training in urban agriculture, culinary arts and leadership. Youth ages 14 to 24 tend nine urban farm plots, lead community cooking workshops and learn valuable work readiness skills, with a focus on direct career pathways to the food service industry.

Dream of Wild Health
Dream of Wild Health helps Native American youth restore the health of their community by expanding their knowledge of, and access to, healthy indigenous foods and medicines. At a 10-acre farm in Hugo, Minnesota, urban youth learn about their cultural heritage, Native American agriculture, cooking and food preservation.

Urban Roots
Urban Roots’ Market Garden youth interns plant, maintain and harvest small-scale crop production. The organization promotes entrepreneurship by teaching youth interns to manage gardens and crops for distribution to community-supported agriculture (CSA), Farmers Market, Roots for the Home Team, food shelves, restaurants and small-batch food preservation for seasonal sales. Program participants are also involved in creating sales and marketing materials for the Farmer’s Market and other retail outlets.

Urban Ventures’ CityKid™ Farms
Urban Ventures works to close the gaps — in employment, achievement, parenting, health and nutrition — that perpetuate urban poverty. The organization operates two CityKid Farm enterprises: At its Midtown Greenway farm in south Minneapolis, youth maintain greenhouses, a bee apiary and an orchard. At its Lakeville location, local youth grow 45,000 pounds of fresh produce each year.
